A.J. Carter's involvement in sports journalism dates back four decades, to his stint as sports director at radio station WBRS-FM and his three years as the Voice of Brandeis Basketball, broadcasting the play-by-play of Brandeis Judges basketball games (one of the head coaches was K.C. Jones). A.J. spent almost 34 years at Newsday, including seven as the deputy sports editor -- a time during which the Rangers won the Stanley Cup, the Yankees won their first world championship in almost 20 years and the Knicks made it to the NBA finals (those were the days!). A.J. has been a die-hard Mets fan since their creation in 1962, became a minor league baseball aficionado during the 1981 baseball strike and remembers seeing the Long Island Ducks when they wore skates and cursed out fans (the fans cursed back). Among his other sports credentials are twice winning the Newsday NCAA tournament bracket pool and the NFL "one and done" pool. A.J. has also appeared as a regular on radio stations WBAB and WLIE and on News 12 Long Island.
